Canada Provides Aid to Flood-Affected Areas in Mindanao
MANILA — The Canadian government has pledged CAD350,000 (approximately PHP14.5 million) in humanitarian aid to assist victims of recent floods and landslides in Mindanao. This support, announced by the Canadian Embassy in Manila, will be channeled through the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Fund in partnership with the Humanitarian Coalition. The funding aims to provide emergency water, sanitation, and hygiene services, as well as distribute multipurpose cash and non-food items to the affected communities.
According to Philippines News Agency, this contribution responds to the devastation caused by the northeast monsoon and a low-pressure area, which triggered significant flooding and landslides across Mindanao. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s latest report highlights the impact of the disaster, with more than 455,000 families affected and 22 fatalities. The aid from Canada underscores the international community’s commitment to supporting the Philippines in its disaster recovery efforts, focusing on immediate relief and support for the flood-hit regions.
