Calls for Price Coordination Council to Address Pork Price Surge in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY – Amid rising pork prices in Negros Oriental, calls have intensified for the provincial government to take action. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has urged Governor Manuel Sagarbarria to convene the Provincial Price Coordinating Council (PPCC) as a matter of urgency. DTI-Negros Oriental chief Nimfa Virtucio highlighted the pressing issue of escalating livestock costs, which poses significant challenges to both producers and consumers in the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, Despite the lifting of the ban on live hog shipments, prices have continued to soar, affecting the affordability of pork products for residents. The DTI’s appeal aims to address the economic impact of the price increases and explore measures to stabilize the market. The community’s concern over the cost of pork, which has reportedly reached as high as PHP400 per kilogram, underscores the urgency of the situation.
