Brunei’s Sultan Engages in Diplomatic Exchange of Credentials


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN — In a significant diplomatic event, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, engaged in the formal exchange of Letters of Credence with Brunei’s newly appointed envoys and foreign diplomats. The ceremonies were conducted at Istana Nurul Iman on the afternoon of August 17.



According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty first presented Letters of Credence to Brunei Darussalam’s own newly-appointed envoys: His Excellency Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates, and Her Excellency Dayang Hajah Noor Qamar binti Haji Sulaiman, as High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore. Following this, His Majesty received Letters of Credence from foreign dignitaries, including His Excellency Mohammad Taghi Rajabi from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Her Excellency Alexandra McKenzie from the United Kingdom, and Her Excellency Eve Lubin from the Republic of France, all designated as Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Brunei Darussalam.



Post-ceremony, His Majesty held audience meetings with Brunei Darussalam’s newly-appointed envoys and separately with the newly-appointed foreign envoys. Also present at these significant diplomatic exchanges were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Grand Chamberlain.
