The Brunei Darussalam National Youth Policy, DBN 2002 is a decision making basic programme for stakeholders towards youth. DBN is a long-term plan to establish Excellent Brunei Youth. Six major outcome fields of DBN are Education and Self-Development, Youth Occupation and Training, Leadership, Effort, International Understanding as well as Service to Others and Country.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, underscored the matter at the 3rd session of the Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers in Istanbul, Turkey. The theme of the 2-day Conference was ‘Empowering Youth for Peace, Solidarity and Development’.
According to Yang Berhormat, the ministry sees the need to establish a DBN that is more holistic and united to tackle more challenging youth issues at an appropriate time. The strategy towards this, explained Yang Berhormat, is to improve the implementation mechanism in various levels of communications, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the programme which is more effective, inclusive and involving all parties managing and developing youths. On OIC, youth joint strategy and policy, and OIC sports strategy Yang Berhormat said they certainly act as guidance so that the youth and sports development programme is on the right track. In Brunei Darussalam, skill training courses for youth to find sources of income, instils the sense of belonging, builds a strong family as the foundation unit of the community, changes the mindset as well as developing the culture of self-reliankce among youth, are the projects and programmes held continuously for the youths’ benefit. Yang Berhormat aso encouraged all parties to work closely with youth for the young people play the role as agent of change.
Yang Berhormat also paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Akif Cagatay Kilic, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey at Conrad Hotel. The goodwill visit was to further strengthen bilateral relations, specifically in youth and sports development aside from exchanging views on global sports and youth issues. Also present was Dayang Osfinita binti Tahir, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in the Republic of Turkey.
