Society specifically women should raise their awareness and knowledge on the prevention and early detection of a number of cancers including breast cancer. In the statistics released by the Brunei Darussalam Cancer Centre, in 2014, 779 people in the country were diagnosed with cancer.

From the total, 99 cases were breast cancer. In this regard, towards raising awareness on cancer in the country, awareness programmes continue to be held by relevant parties.

The Health Promotion Centre with the cooperation of the Mukim Lumapas Consultative Council’s women’s Bureau yesterday held a Breast Cancer Awareness Programme. More than 100 women and teen girls attended the programme. Through motivational talks, emphasis was placed on a healthy lifestyle, prevention methods, undergoing breast self-examination or visiting nearby health clinics to undergo examinations. Early detection of cancer can help women in receiving a more effective treatment.
