BORACAY - The Malay local government is implementing a full suite of security and safety measures to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for tourists visiting Boracay Island this summer.
According to Philippine News Agency, the municipal incident management team is in full operation, overseeing aspects such as public safety, medical readiness, and waste management in anticipation of increased tourist activity.
Delos Santos highlighted the preparation for significant events like Love Boracay and various international sports competitions, which are expected to attract a large influx of visitors. Love Boracay, running from April 26 to May 1, is a marquee event promoting environmental stewardship alongside vibrant festivities. Concurrently, international beach volleyball and dragon boat races are scheduled, adding to the island's appeal.
Although there is no explicit target for tourist numbers, estimations based on historical data suggest that arrivals could reach 200,000 during April and May, traditionally the peak period. This estimation comes despite a slight decrease in tourist numbers during the recent Holy Week compared to the previous year, with 56,134 visitors noted this year against last year's 62,241.
Delos Santos also emphasized the peaceful environment maintained on the island, with the Philippine National Police confirming the absence of significant incidents. This stability is a key message in inviting tourists, both domestic and international, to experience Boracay. Post-pandemic statistics indicate that the majority of visitors are now domestic, accounting for 70%, with the remaining 30% comprising international tourists.
