The diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Russian Federation continues to strengthen with the establishment of bilateral cooperation namely in trade as well as energy and culture. This was discussed during the courtesy call made by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of the Legislative Council with Her Excellency Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the Russian Federation Council.

Yang Berhormat is on a 5-day official visit to the Russian Federation. Also discussed was the inter-parliamentary involvement at the dialogue meeting between the two countries during the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary General Assembly. The meeting has opened up an opportunity for Brunei Legislative Council members to attend meetings in the Russian Federation such as the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) in 2013. The discussion also touched on cooperation in the field of economy and investment.

Yang Berhormat also made a visit to the Ministry of Education and Science as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and had the opportunity to meet with Deputy Ministers at the ministries. Issues that were mutually focused on included existing and future cooperation matters.

The Russian Federation Council Conference Hall was also the focus of Yang Berhormat’s visit apart from attending the wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin Wall. The ceremony is held annually in memory of the fallen Soviet soldiers in World War Two.
