Bicol Region Launches Health Caravan to Aid 13,000 Residents

BICOL REGION – A health initiative aimed at providing medical and dental services to approximately 13,000 residents across the Bicol Region has been announced. The “Tarabangan Caravan,” organized by the Ako Bicol (AKB) Party-List, is set to travel through the six provinces of the region this year, offering a range of health services to the local population.

According to Philippines News Agency, AKB’s media relations officer, the caravan is a key component of the party-list’s efforts, in collaboration with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., to deliver essential health services directly to the community, especially those in remote areas. The initiative, led by Rep. Elizaldy Co, emphasizes the government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for all Bicolanos.

Luces outlined the preparation for 22 scheduled Tarabangan Caravan events, aiming to serve at least 600 individuals per activity. Beneficiaries will receive free medical check-ups and medications, alleviating the financial burden of healthcare. Additionally, the caravan will offer job fairs, free massages, haircuts, and livelihood assistance, further supporting the well-being and economic stability of the residents.

Reflecting on the success of the previous year, Luces highlighted that over 6,000 individuals benefited from the caravan’s services, reaching communities in Manito, Camalig, Malilipot, Anislag, Sto. Domingo, Guinobatan, as well as selected areas in Legazpi City, Calabanga, and the provinces of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Masbate.

Rep. Co, chair of the Committee on Appropriations in the Lower House, praised the Tarabangan Caravan’s achievements as evidence of AKB’s dedication to community service. He expressed optimism about the program’s expansion, ensuring that more residents would have access to vital medical services. The caravan exemplifies the effectiveness of direct outreach in enhancing the health and livelihoods of those in distant communities.
