Bicol Police Seize PHP224 Million in Illegal Drugs, Arrest Over 2,600 in Anti-Drug Efforts

BICOL – The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has successfully seized approximately PHP224 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 2,609 suspects as part of their intensified anti-drug operations over the past two years under the current administration.

According to Philippines News Agency, the operations spanned from July 1, 2022, to July 31, 2024, targeting drug trafficking activities across the six provinces of the region. Dizon detailed these efforts during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas briefing at Camp Simeon Ola, highlighting the seizure of 31,432.75 grams of marijuana, 20,803.87 grams of shabu, and 300.48 grams of cocaine, among other narcotics prevented from circulating in the market.

In addition to drug interdiction, PRO-5 has been active in weapons control, confiscating 1,717 assorted firearms from 638 individuals and capturing 2,107 of the region’s most wanted criminals, significantly impacting crime rates. The operations extended to combatting insurgency, resulting in the arrest of 573 rebels, the surrender of 1,214, and the recovery of numerous weapons and explosives. Those who surrendered have been integrated into society through the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, which offers financial aid, livelihood training, and educational opportunities.

Furthermore, the regional police have cracked down on illegal gambling, apprehending 5,524 individuals and confiscating over PHP2.3 million in 2023 alone. The comprehensive crime-fighting strategy also includes a vast number of foot and mobile patrols to enhance police visibility and community safety.

Brig. Gen. Dizon emphasized the commitment of PRO-5 to proactive and responsive policing, ensuring that law enforcement services remain accessible to all citizens across the region.
