CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, NORTHERN MINDANAO — The Bureau of Fire Protection in Northern Mindanao (BFP-10) has secured PHP8 billion from the national budget for capital expenditures, aimed at enhancing fire safety and emergency response capabilities in the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, who spoke during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas media briefing on Tuesday, half of the funds, amounting to PHP4 billion, will be used for modernization initiatives including the procurement of new fire trucks and other essential equipment. “We have been provided with 24 additional fire trucks, bringing our total to 151 in the region, along with nine ambulances and one service vehicle,” Abacahin stated.
The funding allocation also includes PHP60 million designated for constructing fire stations across six municipalities, with five in Lanao del Norte and one in Camiguin province. These new facilities are expected to enhance the BFP’s response capabilities in these areas significantly.
Additionally, the BFP-10 is launching the “Eye in the Sky” project, which involves the creation of a multipurpose facility featuring a helipad. The project, with an initial phase costing PHP8 million, is set on a 600-hectare government property in Maigo, Lanao del Norte. This initiative aims to improve aerial surveillance and response measures during emergencies.
