Asia’s First Climate-Controlled Tulip Farm Opens in the Philippines
MADDELA, Quirino Province — In a pioneering move blending innovation with agriculture, Phinl Corp., a Danish-Filipino joint venture, has launched Asia’s first fully contained, computer-controlled indoor hydroponic tulip farm in the Philippines. This groundbreaking initiative, as announced by the Board of Investments (BOI) on Tuesday, represents a significant advancement in agricultural technology and sustainability within the region.
According to Philippines news Agency, Phinl’s PHP157.4-million venture in Maddela, Quirino Province, demonstrates the Philippines’ commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainability. The climate-controlled facility allows for the cultivation of high-quality tulips, meeting the growing local demand for these flowers. This venture not only underscores the potential for diversification in Philippine agriculture but also highlights the country’s readiness to adopt and excel in sophisticated farming techniques.
Phinl utilizes advanced hydroponics, a soilless cultivation method, to grow tulips under optimal conditions. The farm operates within a completely closed environment, meticulously regulating temperature, humidity, and light intensity to ensure the flowers thrive despite the tropical climate.
Trade Secretary and BOI Chair Alfredo Pascual emphasized the project’s alignment with BOI’s efforts, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, to promote sustainability in the agricultural sector. By embracing scalable projects that leverage the latest technologies, the BOI aims to transform traditionally challenging or impossible agricultural ventures into successful operations in the Philippines. The registration of projects like Phinl’s tulip farm, alongside integrated dairy farms, modern vegetable farms, and hybrid seed productions, marks a new era of innovation and environmental stewardship in the country’s agricultural industry.
This initiative not only contributes to the growth of the local floral market but also sets a precedent for sustainable and technologically advanced agriculture across Asia.
