Antique Launches Housing Initiative for Typhoon Yolanda Victims
SAN REMIGIO, ANTIQUE — Twenty-five families in San Remigio, Antique, displaced by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, will soon benefit from a new housing project initiated by the local government and funded by the National Housing Authority (NHA).
According to Philippines News Agency, who presided over the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, the PHP 500,000 housing units are expected to provide displaced families with the necessary amenities to ensure their comfort. The project, located in Barangay Cabiawan, aims for completion within one year, marking a significant step forward in the region’s long recovery process from one of the most devastating typhoons to hit the Philippines.
In addition to the housing project, the local government is taking further steps to support vulnerable populations. During the same week, Mayor Mission opened an Early Intervention Center for Children with Disabilities and participated in the National Disability Week celebrations, committing to ongoing support for persons with disabilities. The Antique Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, alongside the Provincial Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), will oversee the new center, which will focus on providing early intervention services to enhance socialization, self-help, cognition, and communication skills for children.
The PDAO will also facilitate monthly visits by a physical therapist to offer therapy sessions to children with cerebral palsy, supported by development workers trained to assist children with developmental delays or disabilities.
