Antique Health Office Alerts Public to Dengue Spike During El Niño


Antique – The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has issued a public warning about a potential increase in dengue cases amid the El Niño weather phenomenon.



According to Philippines News Agency, the province has recorded a rise in dengue infections, with 59 cases identified from January 1 to 27, 2024, marking an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Duldoco emphasized the importance of covering water storage containers to prevent them from becoming mosquito breeding sites. She advocated for the 5S strategy against dengue, which includes measures such as searching and destroying mosquito breeding areas, self-protection, seeking early consultation, supporting fogging in hotspot areas, and sustaining hydration. The IPHO has also recommended increasing daily water intake and has prepared the El Niño Mitigation and Preparedness Plan for Health to address and prevent El Niño-related diseases.
