Antipolo and Laoag Cities to Host Upcoming Philippine Teqball Federation Events

Antipolo City – The cities of Antipolo and Laoag have been selected to host the upcoming activities of the Philippine Teqball Federation (PITEQ) for the first quarter of 2024.

According to Philippines News Agency, who spoke on Monday, the federation’s technical committee will oversee the events to ensure that both promotional and technical standards are met. The initiative reflects the organization’s efforts to expand the footprint of teqball, a sport that has gained significant attention in recent years.

The PITEQ, under the leadership of Tarlac sports advocate Victor Yap, previously organized the 1st Cainta Teqball Championships, drawing fifty competitors from various cities including Laoag City, Tarlac, Montalban, Taytay, and Cainta. The tournament saw John Dale Bartolome from Laoag City securing the men’s singles title against his teammate Rylee Sy with a score of 12-9. Teqball, known for its unique blend of sepak takraw and table tennis played on a curved table, has emerged as a popular spectator sport in Europe and is now making its mark in the Philippines.

The support from the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has been pivotal for the national team’s participation in international competitions. This included the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games, where teqball was featured as a demonstration sport. Additionally, PITEQ athletes represented the Philippines at the Koh Samui tournament in Thailand and the World Championships in Bangkok last November, signaling the sport’s growing international presence and the country’s commitment to its development.
