Post: Alzheimer’s Disease International Conference Highlights Dementia Care and Diagnosis in Asia-Pacific

City Unspecified — The Alzheimer's Disease International Asia-Pacific Regional Conference 2023 continued its discussions with a focus on dementia care and diagnosis.

According to a new release by Radio Television Brunei, the morning session showcased experiences from individuals living with dementia who require extra support but should not be viewed as incapable. The session also updated attendees on the current state of diagnosis, treatment, and care in the Asia-Pacific region, specifically highlighting Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Strengths and challenges in each service were also discussed.

The afternoon session revealed that Brunei Darussalam has a high rate of non-communicable diseases, which are risk factors for dementia, but a low rate of dementia diagnosis. A public health approach to increasing awareness of dementia symptoms and enhancing risk reduction measures is recommended in the country.
