Mass media is one of the most effective mediums to deliver current messages and information to the community. Apart from that, new media also plays an important role in creating various dimensions with the benefit of using it towards efforts to uphold the glory of the Malay Language.
Speaking at the 9th Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia Language Council, MABBIM Lecture yesterday, the Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau explained the use of mass media is not exempted in MABBIM’s efforts to highlight the Malay Language to the whole world.
Dayang Hajah Nortijah binti Haji Mohd Hassan said some 4 billion of the world population are using social media to interact actively and Brunei Darussalam has recorded the highest statistic in the use of social media in Asia last year. She added that based on the numbers, various strategies can be drafted in order to develop the Malay Language. With the theme “Using Electronic and Print Media to Develop a Translation Machine”, Engineer Gunarso, from Indonesia, in his lecture discussed that the techniques used in the translation system continues to develop from time to time. Since 2008, 8 presenters from the MABBIM member countries shared the findings from studies in various topics related to the development of the Malay Language.
