Five core components for social welfare namely protection, rehabilitation, prevention, development and integration are all provided for Brunei Darussalam citizens. Children, individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, families with problems, poor individuals as well as victims of disasters represent the target group where an environment or situation need to be created in order to enable them to enjoy their rights as citizens and achieve the highest possible level of welfare.
The matter was stressed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, while attending the 9th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development and related meetings in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Themed “Strengthening Social Welfare Development in Pursuing ASEAN Community Vision 2025”, the meeting also approved the 2016-2020 Action Plan for rapid development in fields which target a satisfactory standard of living for the ASEAN Community to live prosperous lives in a peaceful region.
Meanwhile at the ASEAN+3 Meeting in the same field, Yang Berhormat Pehin said that the experiences of the People’s Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea in formulating housing provisions, health facilities, access to education and old age insurance can all be adapted in the respective countries’ systems. Yang Berhormat Pehin’s speech was read by His Excellency (Retired) Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Yussof bin Haji Abdul Rahman, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Indonesia.
