The significant of initiatives to enhance the regional cooperation in emergency response aside from welcoming the activities coordination in reducing disaster risk and climate change adaptation were among stressed by the Minister of Home Affairs at the 7th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management, AMMDM and 8th Conference of the Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response COP to AADMER. The meeting took place at the Nay Pyi Taw, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong also shared Brunei Darussalam’s activities in building the people’s capability in facing disaster such as through the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator programme where the programme acknowledge the participants from mukim and village that can facilitate in disaster management activities including preparedness and response.
The meeting which was attended by the ministers from the ASEAN member countries who are responsible in the disaster management, among other matters discussed on ways to together further strengthen the response amongst the ASEAN member countries on any disaster and evaluate the implementation of AADMER towards realising the desire to develop a safe and sustainable community.
The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Win Myat Aye, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Also present were Awang Mohd Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary for Safety, Welfare and Law at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Awang Shahrin bin Haji Mohd Jawie, Acting Director National Disaster Management Centre, NDMC.
