The public, especially literature enthusiasts and new writers have the opportunity to take part in first the Southeast Asian Literature Council, MASTERA's Creative Writing Competition. The event is part of the MASTERA strategic plan that aims to boost the functions of member countries in ensuring the process of elevating Malay literature at both the national and international levels is smooth and well-planned.
Dayang Rosmuliati binti Haji Yahya, Acting Head of Literature and Magazine at the Language and Literature Bureau said the aims of the competition included producing new creative writers in the MASTERA countries and increasing high quality creative publications. She added the competition underscores several important matters including messages or lessons for readers, writing technique and language. This should fit the story line and can be understood and internalised by the readers as well as shape positive thinking.
Dayang Rosmuliati who is also Deputy Secretary of MASTERA Brunei Darussalam explained that the competition is conducted by MASTERA Malaysia and carried out in cooperation by MASTERA member countries Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Participation is open to individuals who are 40 years old and below. Two categories are competed, namely Poetry and Short Stories.
