Member of the Legislative Council's delegation visited the Pulau Muara Besar Industrial Site and Salambigar Industrial Site. At the Pulau Muara Besar Industrial Site, the delegation took a closer look at the Pulau Muara Besar Refinery and Petrochemical Plant Hengyi Industries Sdn. Bhd.

The establishment of refinery acts as part of the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry's effort to support the development of downstream oil and gas industries. Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad is a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) company between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di- Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Zhejiang Hengyi Petrochemical Company Limited. The refinery and petrochemical plant was recently completed and expected to be fully operational in early 2020. The plant has a production capacity of 175,000 barrels per day, producing various products including jet fuel, diesel, gasoline, LPG, Paraxylene and other petrochemicals mainly for export to China and other regional markets.

To conclude the visit, the delegation visited SC Tubular Sdn Bhd, a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) company currently in operation at Salambigar Industrial Park. SC Tubular Sdn Bhd currently has 92% local workforce. S-C Tubular Sendirian Berhad is a joint venture between the Japanese's Sumitomo Corporation Asia and Oceania Pte Ltd and OMS Oilfield Services Pte Ltd. The visits are in line with the Ministry aspiration to facilitate and support nation's industrial development, spin-off activities as a part of its on-going effort to create a diverse and sustainable economy. Present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Mohd Hussein, Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry. Also present were Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry.
