The Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam actively involves the community in the country's development. Government relations with the community have been nurtured through various activities. In this regard, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports encourages the universities to use existing mechanisms and work together to explore further the involvement between university and community. According to Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, there are many activities to be implemented between the two parties, especially in the fields of culture, youth, sports and social welfare. When presenting the keynote address at the official opening ceremony of the 6th International Conference of the Community University, Yang Berhormat also urged for more cooperation, not only in the areas of research and volunteering, but also in improving the socioeconomic development of the community especially vulnerable groups.

The two-day conference is attended by more than two hundred participants comprising officers and government staff, students from higher educational institutions and participants from the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The conference was organised by the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB in collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia. It is the main activities of the Libatsama Network Organisation of Asia-Pacific University-Community, APUCEN. With the theme 'Navigating Community Engagement: Charting the Course for 21st Century', the conference highlights the importance of having better understanding and appreciation to each other in facing the challenges effectively while maximise all opportunities in the current era.
