His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah described the ASEAN-Japan Strategic Partnership as one of the most important regional processes, encompassing many levels and areas of cooperation, and has contributed to ASEAN's continued growth, development and prosperity while at the same time bringing the two sides closer together. In this regard, His Majesty and other leaders expressed satisfaction with the Connectivity Statement at this Summit. His Majesty delivered the titah during the 22nd ASEAN-Japan Summit held at IMPACT Arena, Exhibition and Trade Centre, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok, Thailand.

Accompanying His Majesty was His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

The Summit began with an Opening Statement from His Excellency Retired General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand and Chairman of ASEAN.

His Majesty also highlighted that the Fourth Industrial Revolution has presented ASEAN with several opportunities but also challenges, whereby it is imperative that both sides continue to prepare the region and its people for such developments. It is one of ASEAN's aims to develop its digital infrastructure and economy. In this matter, His Majesty expressed confidence that Japan would be able to share its best practices and experiences with ASEAN.

In addition, ASEAN also encourages more human capacity building programmes, so its people can participate in new industries transformed by advancements in technology.

His Majesty further stated that such initiatives are key to ensuring that the private sectors, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, are able to contribute to and sustain the region's economic progress.
