Discussions and suggestions were made on the main results of the Task Force on Mid-Term Review of the Kuala Lumpur (KLTSP) 2016-2025 Meeting during the 50th ASEAN Senior Transport Officers Meeting, STOM. This includes the activities and projects to be implemented by the ASEAN Transport Working Groups.
Also on discussion were transport cooperation with ASEAN dialogue partners in preparation for the ASEAN Transport Ministers' Meeting, the 26th ATM and Meetings with Dialogue Partners which are scheduled to be held on 24th to 25th November 2020. The 50th STOM Meeting and the Joint Dialogue Partners' Meetings held through video conferencing starting yesterday and today, were chaired by Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunication as the STOM Chairman for this year.
Meanwhile, an evaluation of the progress of the implementation of activities and projects under the 2018-2020 Action Program of the Revised Strategic Plan for ASEAN-China Transport Cooperation were also carried out during the 19th ASEAN and China Senior Transport Officers Meeting, STOM PLUS China, chaired jointly by Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri and Mr Shan Hongjun, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Transport, People's Republic of China. The meeting is a follow-up on the further implementation of the Joint Statement of ASEAN Transport Ministers and Chinese Transport Ministers in 'Ensuring Smooth Transport and Logistics to Combat COVID-19 and Reactivate the Economy' which was approved on 16 July 2020.
Earlier in the morning, ASEAN Senior Transport Officers held a meeting with Japan during the 19th ASEAN and Japan Senior Transport Officers Meeting, STOM PLUS Japan, co-chaired by Mr. Yamakoshi Toshihiro, Special Representative for International Affairs at the Ministry Japanese Land, Infrastructure and Tourism. The meeting discussed the status and development of the implementation of projects under the ASEAN-Japan Transport Partnership (AJTP) Working Plan 2019-2020, including key achievements as well as new initiatives related to port efficiency, maritime security and sustainable transport.
During the meeting of the ASEAN Transport Officers and the Republic of Korea, the 12th STOM PLUS ROK, both parties reviewed the implementation of the existing ASEAN-ROK Transport Cooperation Roadmap 2019-2020. The meeting, chaired by Mrs. Jiyoung Shim, Director of the Division of International Cooperation and Trade, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea, considered the proposal to extend the roadmap for five years from 2021.
Yesterday afternoon, the 4th ASEAN-EU Senior Transport Officers Dialogue, ASEAN-EU STOD, co-chaired by Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri and Tuan Henrik Hololei, General Director of Mobility and Transport, European Commission. The dialogue aims to exchange views on recovery plans in the ASEAN region and the European Union for the purpose of addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. The dialogue also considers the status and development of the implementation of programs under the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument, E-READI and also through ASEAN Regional Integration Support from the EU, ARISE Plus. Outcomes from the 50th STOM and Meetings with Dialogue Partners will be brought forward to the 26th ATM and also with Dialogue Partners next week. Also present was Pengiran Haji Mohd Zain bin Pengiran Haji Abd Razak, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Transport at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunication as the Head of Delegation of Brunei Darussalam.
