World Patient Safety Day Celebration

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges and opportunities in medication safety aspects. The Minister of Health said that the pandemic has also shown the resolve and will of the government and population as a whole in the scientific and health communities in their evidence-based advocacy and practices. These include increased understanding and acceptance with risks associated with medications.

 

Speaking during the World Patient Safety Day Celebration, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar added that medication care management and continuity were also drastically affected by the need to reduce contact during the pandemic. Most importantly, the pandemic has put the onus of healthcare back to the patients and their carers resulting in a more aware and responsible population. Yang Berhormat said, the Ministry of Health have taken steps to ensure proper medication management and safety via the implementation of the International Patient Safety Goals on Medication Safety.

 

World Patient Safety Day was formally established under the World Health Organization in 2019 and is celebrated every 17th September. The theme for this year’s celebration is Medication Safety with the slogan ‘Medication without Harm’.
