Technical Vocational Education and Training, TVET plays a vital role in the 21st century. Rapid technological developments and globalization have triggered radical changes in the workplace and surroundings. ASEAN, along with the South East Asia Minister of Education Organisation, SEAMEO, continuously work together to improve as well as enhance the efficacy of TVET for the 21st century. Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of The 5th High Officials Meeting of SEA-TVET, yesterday morning, the Minister of Education said TVET must match the pace of change in the workplace and society as the future will require workers to possess knowledge and skills in cloud computing, big data analytics, robotics, automation and the Internet of Things, IoT, to perform jobs effectively in an Industrial Revolution 4.0 environment. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman stressed that TVET needs to be ready to embrace this technological transformation as it will affect the way TVET prepares the future workforce.

More than 150 participants from local and international attended the meeting. The meeting is one of the platforms to ensure that the technical and vocational education stream in this region in line with the aspect of harmonisation internationalisation. With the theme "Strengthening Efforts Towards TVET 4.0", the Meeting highlights four topics that focus on regional initiatives for TVET development in Southeast Asia. The 2-day meeting is conducted by the Ministry of Education with the support of Politeknik Brunei; Institute Brunei Technical Education, IBTE; International Affairs Section, Ministry of Education; SEAMEO Regional Centre for Technical Education Development.
