Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between both countries and reiterated their commitment to foster continual progress and deepen cooperation on environmental protection and management, environmental education and water resources management.
The Minister of Development and Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, the Republic of Singapore made the commitment during the 13th Brunei-Singapore Annual Exchange of Visits, BSAEV. Yesterday's programme took place in the Republic of Singapore. Brunei Darussalam's delegation was led by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Insinyur Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, while Singapore's delegation was led by His Excellency Masagos Zulkifli.
The Ministers noted that Brunei Darussalam and Singapore will further strengthen exchanges in water resources management through the sharing of experiences in water conservation awareness such as data analytics and metering, water efficiency labelling scheme, holistic planning and design of infrastructure through advanced predictive technologies, and development and management of desalination water treatment projects. Both countries will continue to collaborate to enhance water resilience and overcome future challenges in water resources management, and the use of meteorology and radars to manage flash floods.
The Ministers agreed to explore new areas of cooperation which include planning, housing and modernisation of infrastructure towards eco-smart districts to promote socio economic growth and environmental sustainability. The Ministers also agreed to step up exchanges in areas of Zero Waste, Circular Economy and Climate Change. Both countries reiterated their commitment to cooperate with other ASEAN member states to advance regional environmental interests to achieve sustainable development and provide a healthy and clean living environment for the people.
Yang Berhormat also made a courtesy call on His Excellency Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance and His Excellency Khaw Boon Wan, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport. The meetings were held in a friendly and cordial manner and reiterated the importance of strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation for the mutual benefit of the peoples and both countries. The delegation also took the opportunity to visit several places and participated in friendly games. Brunei Darussalam will host the 14th BSAEV next year.
