Recently, an SMS went viral whereby the recipient’s number is awarded cash prize worth 950 thousand Euros from the ‘Pepsi Promotional Awards’. In the SMS, it also requires the recipient to send an email to ‘email@example.com’ using the number 44777000111. Following this finding, the Royal Brunei Police Force confirmed that the SMS is a scam, and therefore is false.
In regard to this matter, the public is reminded not to fall for the scam and remain vigilant with such activities. So far, the police did not receive any reports of loss. The police also requested assistance from financial institutions and remittance companies to always ensure that their customers abide by the financial regulations for overseas remittance. The public is also reminded not to send money to unknown parties to avoid being a victim of a scam syndicate.
