Various regional security issues were discussed at the 18th IISS Shangri-La Dialogue held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Republic of Singapore.
The dialogue was attended by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof, the Second Minister of Defence. Aside from the dialogue, the Second Minister of Defence also held separate bilateral calls with His Excellency Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Republic of Singapore, and His Excellency Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence of Republic of Singapore. Both sides expressed pleasure on the warm and close bilateral ties enjoyed by both countries, and reaffirmed their commitments to further strengthen existing defence and military cooperation.
Among the issues discussed at the conference were the U.S. vision for Indo-Pacific, security in the Korean Peninsula, Asia's evolving security order and its challenges, and China's role in international security cooperation.
Aside from that the Southeast Asian - United States Defence Ministers' Meeting was also held prior to the start of the Dialogue. During the meeting, the meeting participants had an open exchange of views on regional security issues. Also attending the Dialogue was Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
