The duty of an Amil seems easy because it is seen as simply waiting for Muslims in the country to pay the Zakat Fitrah or Tithe at the mosques or Amil's home. However, it is a heavy task because it requires honesty and trust. Hence, the Amils are advised to handover the Tithe money to the Tithe Collection and Distribution Section, Islamic Religious Council Department on the fixed dates because it part of the audit regulation as well as to reduce the risk of losing the Tithe money. Speaking during the Presentation of Tithe and Property Tithe Collectors' Credentials Nationwide this morning, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs as Yang Di-Pertua of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB stressed that the duty and responsibility entrusted must be carried out properly and in the best possibly way. This year, 319 Amils have been appointed for 149 Tithe Collecting areas in the country. In Brunei Muara, 182 Amils have been appointed for 80 areas, 24 Amils for 12 areas in Belait, 51 for 29 areas in Tutong and 24 Amils for 12 areas in Temburong District. Meanwhile at the Islamic Religious Council Department, 38 Amils have been appointed from among the department's officers and staff. Place for the collection and payment of the Zakat Fitrah or Tithe are the mosques, surau, religious halls, the homes of Amils who comprised of Village Heads, the Titah Collection and Distribution Offices, Islamic Religious Council Department in Brunei Muara and branches of Tithe Collection and Distribution Section at the Religious Affairs Offices in the other 3 districts. Meanwhile, Islamic Financial Institutions which have been appointed as Amils only collect Property Tithe from depositors or clients at TAIB and BIBD.
