The ICT Brunei -BICTA Awards 2019 has been launched with a new approach through wider support from the involvement of agencies such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Darussalam Enterprise- DARe. This is to encourage wider participation among student and local companies. BICTA is also giving the participants the opportunity to upgrade their skills and capabilities through BICTA Plus. The remarks were made by Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transportation and Info-communications during a media conference this afternoon. Awang Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim who is also Acting 1st Co-Chairman of BICTA 2019 Steering Committee said the event is not only open to participants who also have products but also those who wish for the realisation of their prototypes. With the prototypes, BICTA participants can transform their ideas into 3 dimensional or 3D versions.

Awang Haji Hairul Mohd Daud explained that BICTA is a platform for presenting products, services or ideas in efforts towards accomplishing Wawasan 2035. Carrying the theme, “Innovation for a Digital Nation”, BICTA 2019 emphasises innovation among the present generation as a way to bring digital change to achieve the objective of Wawasan 2035. With the objective of encouraging innovation and creativity in ICT, BICTA 2019 is opening three categories for participation of individuals, students, small and medium enterprises SMEs and other interested organisations. The categories are the Schools Category which is open to individuals or students from Years 7 to 11 that offers 3-thousand dollars cash prize; the Tertiary Category which is open to individuals or students from Year 12 to undergraduates and offers 7-thousand dollars cash prize and the Industry Category which is open to individuals, start-up companies and government agencies and offers 10-thousand dollars cash prize. BICTA 2019 also presents five Special Awards for Research and Development, Big Data Analytics Technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IOT) Technology and Start Up.
