4 local men and a foreign national were brought before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrates Court for the offence of being involved in a number of theft cases in separate locations at houses as well as business premise buildings in the Berakas area, Brunei Muara District. The Royal Brunei Police Force in a statement said that 3 suspects pleaded not guilty while two other were sentenced to 30 months imprisonment and 12 months imprisonment as well as 3 strokes of the cane respectively.
According to Inspector Nor Rashidah binti Haji Abd Sahamd, Traffic and Criminal Investigation Officer, Berakas Police Station, all of the accused were once again brought before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrates Court to face charges under Section 379 which is theft and under Section 380 which is theft in a dwelling or building of the Penal Code Chapter 22. Awangku Abdul Malek bin Pg Idrus, an unemployed 25 year old, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment at Maraburong Prison as of the 29th of April 2019. 33 year old Abdul Wafi bin Abdul Wahab pleaded not guilty and the next trial date is on the 11th of May 2019.
Meanwhile, 33 year old Indonesian male, Khoirul Ariffin bin Sarinem, who was working as a labourer, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and 3 strokes of the cane as of the 27th of April 2019. Mohammad Azriyadi bin Haji Salamat aged 35 and unemployed, pleaded not guilty and the next trial date is on the 14th of May 2019 and 43 year old Abdul Sallehi bin Haji Mohamad who is unemployed, pleaded not guilty and will next face trial on the 14th of May 2019.
