The Empowering Culture of Reading Carnival is organised to nurture interest and culture of reading regardless of age, instilling reading activities, enhancing the use of libraries from the aspect of services as well as encouraging people to go to libraries. This morning, the opening ceremony of the Empowering Culture of Reading Carnival was held simultaneously in the four districts in conjunction with World Book Day and the Library Reading Park.

In the Brunei Muara District, the opening ceremony took place at the Language and Literature Bureau in Bandar Seri Begawan. Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau in his welcoming speech said that the Library Section has provided various activities as part of the efforts to disseminate and educate the public on procedures of finding materials, introducing the reference service, exposure to information literacy and the library membership registration campaign.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Yang Berhormat also presented prizes to the Reading Diligence winners as a recognition and encouragement for active Library members and winners of the Poster competition. Aside from an exhibition, workshops and talks, sales were also held at every library. Among those present was Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maon, Member of the Legislative Council.
