His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah yesterday afternoon officiated the Butra HeidelbergCement Brunei Championships 2019. The function took place at the Royal Berkshire, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem ibni His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah as the event's promoter; Yang Berhormat (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Awang Haji Mohammad Junaidi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the Organising Committee. Also present was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien.

In his welcoming speech, Chairman of the Organising Committee, among other things expressed his gratitude for Brunei Darussalam hosting the second Asian Development Tour, ADT's sanctioned event.

His Royal Highness then officiated the championship.

Before being introduced to the golfers, His Royal Highness received a pasambah. The 4-day championship starts today. Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem is one of the country's professional golfers. Several well-known golfers taking part in the championships including Kiradech Aphibarnrat from Thailand, who is also the 41st world ranking and Prom Meesawat from Thailand, winner of Asian Tour.

The championship, which offers an overall cash prize of 75 thousand U.S dollars, is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health. The championship will take place at the Golf Course of the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong. Members of the public are welcomed to view the championship and entrance is free.
