The World Book Day Celebration Week for Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA among other matters aimed to encourage the culture of reading and further raise awareness on the importance of books as reference materials. The opening ceremony of the celebration ran concurrently with the launch of the 'UNISSA E-i'Iami Institutional Repository' yesterday morning at the university's library.

The opening was officiated by Doctor Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, Acting Rector of UNISSA. At the function, the Acting Rector of UNISSA received a book endowment from Dayang Hajah Norhayati binti Haji Zaidi, wife of Allahyarham Pengiran Doctor Saiful Bahrin bin Pengiran Haji Kula, Former Director of the Centre for Promotion of Knowledge and Languages Learning, UNISSA. The 'UNISSA E-i'Iami Institutional Repository' system is a storage, collection and maintenance of digital documents produced by academics, researchers and students.

The UNISSA World Book Day Celebration Week is themed 'Berwakaf Buku' or Endowment of Books and includes a forum that discusses about the definition and practices of giving endowments in the time of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wassalam and its importance in community building. Throughout the celebration various activities have been lined up including exhibitions and book sales.
