The Ministry Education envisions the need and significance to formulate a national framework for Sustainable Development Goal 4, SDG4 to ensure that the most appropriate plan-of-action to implement and monitor the SDG4. Doctor Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education said the national framework guideline will have a useful mechanism to plan towards UNESCO Education 2030, thus focusing on the right resources and strategies needed to implement actions and programmes.

The Permanent Secretary who is also the Secretary General of Brunei Darussalam National Commission to UNESCO stressed on the matter at the Opening Ceremony for the Sub-Regional Meeting on SDG4 for Quality Education 2030 and the 2019 Annual Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Countries Report Meeting that takes place in Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong.

Earlier, Dayang Hajah Anis Faudzulaini binti Haji Dzulkiflee, acting Director General of Education in her welcoming remarks highlighted that it is the duty of policy makers and educators to ensure that children are given every opportunity to become well-informed and responsible citizens when faced with making decisions.

Meanwhile, Doctor Mee Young Choi, Head of Education at UNESCO Jakarta Office stated that Education Sustainable Development, ESD, is one of the strategic entry points to achieve the Target 4 point 7 of SDG 4, that is, to ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needs to promote sustainable development. The three-day event is co-hosted by the Ministry of Education and UNESCO Jakarta Office, and is attended by representatives form UNESCO Jakarta Office, UNESCO Bangkok Office as well as representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Timor-Leste.
