The Braille, Orientation and Mobility Workshop organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in collaboration with government agencies and Associations of the Differently-abled, OKU is hoped to enhance society’s awareness on the visually impaired people, their needs as well as boosting their confidence to come forward or appear in public. Yang Berhormat (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports voiced the hope during an interview at the opening of the Braille, Orientation and Mobility Workshop yesterday afternoon.
The workshop is organised by the Community Development Department, JAPEM with the cooperation of the Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education; Special Religious Education Unit, Islamic Studies Department; Ophthalmology Department, Ministry of Health and the Brunei Darussalam National Association for the Blind, BDNAB as well as students volunteers University Technology Brunei UTB. The introduction on braille, functions of the braille machine as methods of using it were among the knowledge shared during the workshop.
The workshop that began today is 15 days long and will end on the 27th of this month. It has almost 50 participants comprising parents, differently-abled students, government officers and religious teachers. A briefing titled, “Looking after Your Eyes” was delivered by Pengiran Dr. Noor Affizan binti Pengiran Hj Abd Rahman, Ophthamology Consultant, Ministry of Health. The session continued with ‘eye screening’.
