The 2-day ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Retreat organised by ASEAN Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministers, TELMIN, which started on the 28th of March took place in Phuket, Thailand. Representing Brunei Darussalam at the Retreat was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.
The meeting was hosted by His Excellency Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand. Retreat which carried the theme ‘ASEAN Digital Agility’, provided the oppfzczcortunity for an open and informal dialogue among ASEAN Ministers responsible for ICT.
The Retreat focused on two main areas, namely, Cybersecurity and Digital Economy, while also providing a platform for discussions on the opportunities and challenges from the 4th Industrial Revolution. The Ministers also provided broad guidance that includes a more conducive digital ecosystem for greater participation by the public and private sectors in the digital economy and society. The ASEAN Digital Ministers Retreat was an outcome from the 18th ASEAN Telecommunications & IT Ministers Meeting held in Bali, Indonesia in December 2018.
The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications also held a bilateral discussion with his counterpart, His Excellency the Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Thailand, on exploring areas of cooperation of mutual interests in issues related to digital economy. Also in attendance was Yang Mulia Awang Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Infocommunications, Cybersecurity, Strategy and Corporate at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
