The First Meeting of the 15th Session of the Legislative Council entered the 5th day yesterday and approved the budget allocations for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The morning session focused on several questions that have been given notice.
Among the issues that were raised was the provision of designated business areas for small and medium enterprises. The Minister of Home Affairs explained that the Municipal Departments have made several plans to open up new areas for business activities. This is to encourage and increase business activities among small and medium enterprises by providing business facilities at areas under the jurisdiction of municipal boards. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, explained the matter in response to a query by Yang Berhormat Awang Naim bin Haji Kamis.
The Minister of Home Affairs added the Municipal Departments have given the small enterprises an opportunity to conduct their business activities. In Bandar Seri Begawan, the activity is carried out during the Bandarku Ceria Programme, held every Sunday from 6 to 10 in the morning. Small enterprises are also given seasonal business opportunity at the end of every month at the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department areas such as in Tudung Saji and KB Ku Ceria activity, including bicycle renting activity. A new business space, which is located in Jalan Roberts is open up for business activity since the 21st of February 2019. A food truck tender is now open in Bandar Seri Begawan area.
Apart from that, the Ministry will continue to monitor the type of businesses, including bicycle and motor vehicle rentals. The Municipal Department only allows the rental and usage of bicycle as well as motor vehicle activities during Bandar Ku Ceria, by adhering to the set terms and conditions, and no permission are given outside the Bandar Ku Ceria.
