The importance of being financial literate and the ability to manage finance effectively were explained to about one hundred Year 9 students of Sultan Hassan Secondary School in Bangar Town, Temburong yesterday morning. The Financial Literacy Workshop organised by the Curriculum Development Department, Ministry of Education which took place at the Civic Centre Complex in Temburong was in conjunction with the 'Global Money Week'.
The 'Global Money Week' which aims to provide financial awareness is celebrated in March every year. The programme was introduced by 'Child and Youth Financial International' and is celebrated by organising several activities locally and at the regional level which are meant to encourage children and youths to learn about the importance of money, saving, livelihood, gaining employment and becoming an entrepreneur.
The students learnt financial management through briefings by the Entrepreneurship and Business Unit, Curriculum Department, Certified Financial Planner Association Brunei Darussalam and the Employees Trust Fund, TAP, Ministry of Finance. The students also had to opportunity to participate in games and interactive activities carrying the theme 'Learn, Save and Earn'. Several students shared their views on the workshop.
