A Malaysian man was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment after failing to pay 609 thousand and 6 hundred dollars fined for possessing 890 cartons of cigarettes.

48-year old, Bidin Bin Kahar, was pleaded guilty at the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court for an offence under the Excise Order 2006. He was detained by the Royal Customs and Excise Department's Enforcement officers last Monday at the Kampung Lumapas area. All the contraband have been confiscated to be destroyed and the car was returned.

The Magistrate's Court also sentenced a local man, Zulfadli Bin Hj Ahad, aged 33 for an offence of not giving cooperation to stop his car after being ordered by the Custom Officer on duty for an inspection and driving dangerously. The defendant pleaded guilty and sentenced to 3 thousand dollars fined or 3 months imprisonment for an offence under the Custom Act and 2 thousand dollars fined or 2 months imprisonment for an offence under Section 279 of the Penal Code Chapter 22. His driving license is suspended for 12 months. He was given until 1st of June to settle the fines.
