The communications sector has made another development in the government’s continuous efforts to provide village communities with the latest communications system. More than 670 homes at Kampung Rataie National Housing Scheme in the Temburong District will benefit from the development outcome once the final fibre optics infrastructure implementation works are completed in the area. By the end of March, the internet network will be provided to homes in well-populated areas in the district.

This morning, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Transport and Info-Communications launched the high speed broadband service at the Rataie exchange.

The launch was part of the TelBru project nationwide aimed at providing communications services facilities in line with Wawasan Negara 2 ribu-35 to further strengthen ICT infrastructure to uphold efforts in diversifying ICT related services in the government’s efforts to reduce dependency on traditional income. Studies have shown that for every 10 percent of Fibre-to-The-Home FTTH penetration to citizens, has the potential to increase a country’s Gross Domestic Product per capita between point 9 to 1 point 5 percent through increased productivity at home and at work. According to TelBru, the Rataie connectivity is the second phase of installation following the first connected cluster in Bangar Town in August last year, whereby commercial entities within the town were the first recipients of high speed internet. Other connected areas include the Ulu-Ulu Resort to cater to the needs of the tourism industry.
