The Open Day for Secondary Special Needs Students (Main Stream and Pre-Vocational Programme) is a platform for channelling information on job opportunities through the JobCentre, further studies through suitable vocational institutes, skills centres through the Youth Development Centre and Pusat Bahagia, and Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs in the country. The Open Day was held at the Airport Mall in Berakas yesterday morning.
Several agencies and institutions with the potential to help widen their career prospects took part in the Open Day. Some provide learning opportunities and special curriculum in vocational and technical skills which suit the interest and qualifications of the Special Needs Students. The Open Day also benefited Year 11 students in secondary schools main or premier stream registered under the Special Education Unit. In this regard the unit hoped the parties involved would give openings not only to Special Needs Students but also Pre-Vocational Programme students.
The Institute of Brunei Technical Education, IBTE, Agro-Technology Campus, Kampung Wasan which was taking part in the Open Day for the first time is offering 3 courses for Special Needs Students, namely the ‘NTEC In Aquaculture’, ‘NTEC In Crop And Livestock Production’ and ‘NTEC In Food Processing’. The study session will begin in July.
Meanwhile, Vice-President of the Brunei National Paralympic Council, PCBD, said the Open Day benefited the Special Needs Students and provided special opportunity to those with talent in sports.
