The Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department has issued a compound fine to an individual and a company for dumping left-over construction materials or goods in public areas.

Results of routine monitoring by the Enforcement Section, Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department and tips from the public saw an Indonesian, Kasikun, issued with a 300 dollar compound fine under paragraph 12 (1) (d) at the Kampung Kiulap area. Meanwhile Syarikat CJ Auto & Engineering Works Sdn Bhd was issued a compound fine of 200 dollars under paragraph 12 (1) (a)

Kasikun and the company must pay their fines within 7 days. Failure to do so will result in the individual and company being brought to court. The first offence can bring about a fine of one thousand dollars while the second and subsequent offences can be fined 3 thousand dollars and imprisonment of not more than 3 months. In this regard, the public and companies are advised to always maintain the cleanliness of the environment in efforts to ensure the town area is always clean and free from pollution. Meanwhile, according to statistics issued by the department, 162 compound fines were issued to individuals and another 80 issued to companies for the period between January to December last year. The overall total is 242 cases.
