The Special Education Unit play an important role in meeting the needs of special needs students. This include students who are visually impaired, where they use Braille system for reading and writing.
So far, 7 visually-impaired students under the Special Education Unit is using Braille for their learning process in class at primary and secondary school. To assist these students, the Special Education Unit held Braille workshops for teachers, and are divided into several phases. Currently, there are 3 resource teachers available to assist visually-impaired students.
Meanwhile, the Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind still requires specific facilities for the visually-impaired. The 83 member-association aims to tackle visual impairment in education, work and culture.
