The ‘No Plastic Bag Everyday’ Initiative will be fully implemented starting on the 31st of December. According to the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), the addition of Monday in the initiative will make it a week without the use of plastic carrier bags in participating stores and shops nationwide. The addition is part of the government’s effort in realizing the ‘No Plastic Bag Every Day’ by the 1st of January 2019.
The slogan ‘It Takes a Nation to End Plastic Pollution’ emphasised on the importance of an integrated effort towards combating plastic pollution in the country. The success in realizing the desire to make Brunei Darussalam free from plastic pollution is entirely dependent on the actions of all parties, because if there is no consciousness among the people about the pollution from plastic bags, all the plans that the government implements will not be a complete success. The initiative also aims to raise the awareness on the concept of re-use, recycle and reduce the use of plastic, apart from reducing the total plastic waste in the country. At the same time, it also encourages the use of recycle bags that are more environmentally friendly, apart from instilling green practices.
