Next year, Japan will see the dawn of a new era, with a new opportunity for the relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Japan to grow ever stronger. His Excellency Motohiko Kato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam made the remarks at a reception on the occasion of the 85th Birthday Celebration of His Imperial Majesty Akihito, Emperor of Japan, last night.

Representing the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the reception was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minster of Finance and Economy.

His Excellency Motohiko Kato in his speech also said that by next year, many exciting sporting events involving both countries will be held in Japan and will increased valuable friendship between both countries. He added, this year, Brunei established the National Judo Federation and the federation is eager to promote the Japanese martial art in the country particularly to participate in the Olympics in Tokyo or at a future date. The reception was highlighted with a Judo performance and an exhibition by some of the Japanese companies in the country.
