Government and private Higher Learning Institutions in the country are called to enhance and empower their corporate governance respectively as it is one of the factors that bring about excellence to an organisation. It objectives is to encourage a more systematic and effective management in order to enhance the quality of presenting the programmes offered. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education made the call at the 4th Politeknik Brunei Convocation Ceremony, this morning. Yang Berhormat also stressed that Politeknik Brunei needs to always monitor the progress development of the Politeknik Brunei Five Years Development Plan 2015-2020 which is being implemented to accommodate the current situation in ensuring continuous development and relevant in supporting Wawasan Brunei 2035.

Yang Behormat said, in the era of globalisation which is unpredictable we need to always be prepared to face whatever challenges. The advance development of knowledge and technology following the Fourth Industrial Revolution will influence our lifestyle and work. As such, students need to be sensitive to whatever changes and to always innovative and creative in obtaining new opportunities that is bring about by the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The Minister of Education also urged every public and private education institutions in the country to work closely in sharing practical knowledge on industrial trend and job market. This is in line with His majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's aspiration to see higher learning institutions to give focus to the 21st Century Research and Skills Education needed. Meanwhile, higher learning institutions also need to always be prepared to draft and further enhance the quality of programmes offered including teaching and learning methods. This can be achieved through close cooperation and understanding between the institutions and industries to together understand the need of current industrial and employment trend.

750 graduates received Level 5 and 4 Diploma certificates in various programmes. Out of the numbers, 170 graduates in Business programme, 199 graduates in ICT, 277 graduates in Science and Engineering programmes and 104 graduates in Health Science programme. Also presented were Academic Excellence Award and Excellent Achievement in Enrichment Activities to students. Also present was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy for Energy and Manpower and Industry as the Deputy Chairman of Politeknik Brunei Board.
