Following a message that went viral through social media on fines imposed by the Land Transport Department starting January next year, the Land Transport Department stressed that the message is untrue, and the department has never issued such a statement.

The Land Transport Department reminds the public not to easily believe any information that went viral in any social media. The department also reminds individuals to stop circulating the message which can cause confusion among the public.

It is an offence under Section 34 of the Public Order Act, Chapter 148 for spreading false and unverified information to the public, and the sentence carries a 3-year imprisonment or a fine of 3 thousand dollars upon conviction.
