The seminar in conjunction with this year's Knowledge Convention aims to disseminate knowledge and understanding to target groups inline with sub-themes related to the convention's theme, 'Agriculture Sector: Survivability of Race and Nation'. It is intended as a platform as well as catalyst in efforts to develop and empower the agricultural sector in the country.
Brunei Darussalam's Agricultural Sector has shown progress despite being slow in contributing to the economy which is dominated by the oil and gas sector. In an interview with RTB, Associate Professor Doctor Dayang Hajah Rose binti Abdullah, Director of Research and Publication Centre of the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University said the agricultural sector continues to attract parties' inline with the strategy of the Agirculture and Agrifood Department in increasing the agriculture and agrifood output growth.
Dayang Nurliyana Fatin binti Arifin, President of Young Entrepreneurs Association Brunei, YEAB explained the importance of women's participation in agriculture, including as farmers and in other sectors such as food manufacturing to promote Brunei's exports throughout the world.
Dayang Doctor Vanessa Teo, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AGROME IQ International Sendirian Berhad described to company's role in efforts to produce a new generation of farmers and providing technology and basic training to help farmers learn ways to integrate new information and technology to make their farms more efficient.
Meanwhile, Doctor Dayang Diana binti Dennis, Senior Livestock Maintenance Officer at the Agriculture and Agriffod Department presented a working paper titled, "Guarantee on Food Security and Food Safety: Resource Production of Livestock Farm Commodity". Among other things, Doctor Diana outlined several standards and best practices guidelines to ensure the safety of livestock commodities.
