The cooperation within the field of health especially for training of doctoral expertise in the field of medicine and dentistry is renewed with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Health of Brunei Darussalam and Academy of Medicine, Singapore. The signing ceremony was held on 27th November in Singapore. Signing on behalf of His Majesty's government was Doctor Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abdul Latif, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the Ministry of Health, while the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, was signed by Doctor S.R.E Sayampanathan, Master at the Academy.

Cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore in the doctoral training field has successfully produced local medical and surgical experts in various fields. Currently, there are 5 local doctors undergoing training under the memorandum of understanding in the fields of rheumatology, acute internal medicine, nephrology, obstetrics and gynaecology and oncology. Meanwhile, 2 more doctors will begin training in the field of acute internal medicine and endocrinology at the end of this year.

Through the memorandum of understanding, the training is open to local doctors who have successfully completed Basic Specialty Training in a specific field of expertise in Brunei Darussalam. The training is hosted by the Academy of Medicine, Singapore through the Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine Scholarship, Singapore (FAMS).
